However, an administrator on the GTA Forums dismissed these claims, stating that a source from a European distribution company confirmed no preorders. As of Monday morning, GTA 6 was not available for preorder on any major online retailer, disappointing eager fans who have been eagerly awaiting the game's release.

The false rumors even impacted stock prices for Rockstar's parent company, Take-Two, causing a drop that has since been recovered.
