CloverWorks, the Japanese animation studio known for projects like Black Butler and Spy x Family, announced that their upcoming anime, Green Yuri, will premiere in January 2027. Based on the X/Twitter manga by Sumiko Arai, the anime will feature a Nirvana song 'Breed' as its opening theme. Director Masashi Ishihama and character designer Kanna Hirayama are part of the production team.
The reveal trailer for Green Yuri showcased the use of the iconic '90s track from Nirvana's album 'Nevermind.' Arai, the manga author, interviewed Dave Grohl, who expressed that Kurt Cobain would have appreciated the anime. The series will also include music from other renowned artists like Soundgarden and Radiohead.
The anime's storyline revolves around high schooler Aya, who falls for a mysterious classmate named Mitsuki, unaware that Mitsuki is actually a girl. The series is set to bring a fresh take on romance and music, with a playlist that promises to captivate fans of rock music.
