God of War Laufey Release Date Revealed at Comic Con 2026

God of War Laufey has a release date: February 16, 2027.

Confirmation of the release date for God of War Laufey was made during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, attended by IGN. The game is expected to be released in 2027, following Sony Santa Monica's confirmation of shipping on-disc. This announcement followed Sony's statement about halting PlayStation disc production from 2028, which led to some backlash.

During the same panel, Santa Monica Studio's head of creative, Cory Barlog, revealed that the next installment in the God of War series, led by Kratos, will directly tie into Laufey's story. Initial reactions to God of War Laufey have been mixed, with some fans praising the combat and visuals while others criticized the simplistic gameplay in the opening section featuring Laufey instead of Kratos.

The first gameplay glimpse of God of War Laufey, showcased in a 20-minute segment during June's PlayStation State of Play event, depicted Kratos and Atreus burning Faye's body, as seen in the 2018 God of War. Kratos later appears to assist Faye briefly while she is imprisoned. It remains uncertain if Kratos will have further appearances before the conclusion of Laufey's story or if these brief encounters are all, as he is occupied with the events of God of War Ragnarök.
