Gears of War: E-Day is set to be a fresh start for the franchise, with The Coalition rebuilding the game in Unreal Engine 5. The prequel is based in Kalona on the planet Sera, focusing on the devastating Emergence Day when the Locust attack humanity, leading to dynamic environment changes throughout the campaign. While not open-world, the game features large-scale combat arenas with varied spaces for players to strategize and engage in intense combat.
The campaign in E-Day is the longest ever designed by The Coalition, estimated to take around 14 hours to complete. The gameplay aims to immerse players in a cinematic experience, with smooth cover transitions, intense action sequences, and opportunities for creative enemy flanking. The game is optimized for PC and Xbox Series X|S, set to launch on October 3, with no plans for a PS5 release.
