We received a fresh look at the next game from Shadow of the Colossus creator Fumito Ueda at Summer Game Fest.
We got a glimpse of Fumito Ueda's upcoming game, previously known as Project Robot and now titled Gen Atlas, during Summer Game Fest. The new trailer showcased the impressive scale characteristic of Ueda's work, hinting at mech-based gameplay with scenes of giant mechs and human-scale characters interacting. The footage highlighted a flying mech head lifting a mech body with a beam, a mech carrying and swinging a giant pillar, and humanoid characters engaging with mechs in various ways.
Similar to the scale-focused gameplay in Shadow of the Colossus, where players climbed colossal beasts, Gen Atlas seems to continue this theme with a mechanized-robot twist. The combat mechanics in the trailer appeared more akin to traditional third-person shooters than Ueda's previous games. Ueda, known for his acclaimed titles like Shadow of the Colossus and The Last Guardian, departed from Sony to establish his own studio, GenDesign, after the release of The Last Guardian in 2016.
