Final Fantasy XI Expands Free Trial

In 2002, Final Fantasy XI was one of the pioneering MMORPG titles on consoles, and Square Enix has kept the world of Vana'diel alive for nearly a quarter century.

Final Fantasy XI, celebrating its 24th anniversary, has expanded its free trial offering. The new trial version has no time limit, allowing players to explore the game freely. The level cap for the trial has been raised to 75, although players are restricted to the base game content. Square Enix also presented an animated short in honor of the game's anniversary, showcasing highlights from 24 years of Final Fantasy XI.

While Final Fantasy XI marks its milestone, rumors of a modern remake for Final Fantasy IX have surfaced on its 25th anniversary. Square Enix is yet to confirm this. Meanwhile, Final Fantasy XIV, the franchise's other online game, is set to debut on Switch 2 in August. Naoki Yoshida, director of Final Fantasy XIV, mentioned considering a single-player version of the game but believes the current team's focus should remain on the online version.
