Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis to Shut Down, Players Have Limited Time

With Final Fantasy VII Revelation set to complete the remake trilogy soon, fans have been eagerly revisiting FFVII's various releases and spinoffs in anticipation, speculating about what the future might hold for the finale.

Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis, a free-to-play downloadable title for mobile and PC released in December 2023, recreates events from Final Fantasy VII and spinoffs like Crisis Core, Dirge of Cerberus, and Before Crisis while adding new story elements. The game, involving original staff like writer Katsushige Nojima and creative director Tetsuya Nomura, utilized a gacha system for monetization. However, the game is set to shut down on October 6th, with real money transactions already halted due to production cost challenges.

Producer Shoichi Ishikawa explained that the decision to shut down Ever Crisis was due to difficulties in balancing production costs with player demands for character gear. The closure will impact players who have enjoyed the unique stories and characters introduced in the game, such as Glenn Lodbrok, who have also appeared in the remake games. Fans are hopeful that Square-Enix may explore alternative ways to continue these stories in the future, similar to Final Fantasy Resonance.
