Final Fantasy 14 players in Japan have a unique opportunity to earn in-game rewards by participating in the Hometown tax initiative (Furusato Nozei). This initiative allows individuals to redirect a portion of their residence tax to other regions of the country and receive special gifts in return. The scheme, which started in 2008, aims to support rural areas by incentivizing taxpayers with various rewards.
In collaboration with Shibuya ward, Square Enix is offering Japanese players of Final Fantasy 14 the chance to purchase different in-game items and cosmetics using their residence tax. The available rewards include costume sets, dance emotes, Phials of Fantasia, and the iconic Megashiba Mount, all priced differently.
While these rewards are tailored for Japanese players, individuals outside Japan can also acquire them through the Final Fantasy 14 online store. The Megashiba Mount, inspired by Shibuya's famous Hachiko, a loyal dog, adds a cultural touch to the in-game offerings, along with the Collegiate Attire Costumes that resonate with Shibuya's vibrant youth culture.
