Square Enix has officially revealed that Final Fantasy 14 will be launching on the Nintendo Switch 2 on August 4, 2026. Game director Naoki Yoshida, also known as Yoshi-P, made the announcement at the Final Fantasy 14 Fan Festival 2026 in Berlin, unveiling a host of new updates for the game's future. Preorders for the game will commence today, with the first month of gameplay being subscription-free to ensure server stability. Following this period, players will need to purchase a subscription.
Yoshi-P expressed gratitude to fans for their patience, stating, 'We knew that you've been waiting for this for a long time, so we're very happy to bring this to you.' The Switch 2 version of FFXIV will require a separate subscription, a decision made after extensive discussions with Nintendo. However, players with active FFXIV subscriptions elsewhere can benefit from a 50% discount on the Switch 2 version.
With the launch just around the corner, more details were shared at the event, including information on the upcoming Evercold expansion, the new Bastion tank role, a collaboration with Final Fantasy 7, and more exciting updates for fans to look forward to.
