Neill Blomkamp, known for cult classics like District 9 and Elysium, recently unveiled a 14-minute AI-generated short film called Nightborne. The film features 32 AI characters based on real actors and follows a zombie super-soldier helicopter pilot. Despite Blomkamp's ambitions to create a full-length AI-generated feature, Nightborne has faced criticism for technical issues, wooden acting, and an uncanny-valley feel.
While Blomkamp remains committed to AI film production and has established Barley Studios for the purpose, other filmmakers like Ash Koosha are also exploring AI-generated projects. Koosha's Odysseus: The Fall, inspired by Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, aims to spark discussions on AI's role in filmmaking.
