Factorio Set for Its Last Major Update, a Decade After Launch

Factorio is set for its last major update soon, developer Wube Software has announced in a blog post.

The influential strategy game Factorio, known for its automated factories, initially launched on Steam in early access in February 2016 and officially in August 2020. Wube Software has decided that the upcoming 2.1 update will be the final major update for the game, focusing on quality-of-life improvements, small features, and modding enhancements. Following a period of closed beta testing, the 2.1 release is expected by the end of June, with continued support throughout the summer.

Looking ahead, Wube plans to shift its focus to long-term support for Factorio, concentrating on bug fixes, platform compatibility, and modding features. This marks the end of active gameplay development for the beloved title, although the studio is already exploring new projects for the future.
