Fable Reboot Delay Impacts Devs, Avoids GTA 6 Competition

The Fable reboot from Playground Games was delayed to February 2027 to ensure it receives proper attention.

The Fable reboot by Playground Games, originally set for release this year, has been postponed to February 2027 by Microsoft. Playground GM Ralph Fulton expressed initial disappointment over the delay, as the studio aimed for a 2026 launch. However, Fulton mentioned that the team now sees the benefits of the delay, especially in avoiding competition with GTA 6.

By moving the release away from the congested period towards the end of the year, Fable can now have a less contested window in February. This allows the developers to focus on creating a significant impact for the game. Despite the anticipation surrounding GTA 6, Fable will now have a clearer opportunity to shine in the gaming market.

Fable is scheduled to launch on February 23, with early access available on February 18 for those willing to pay extra. Additional information about the game, such as Hayley Atwell's role as the villain, was revealed at Summer Game Fest. The title will also be accessible on Xbox Game Pass from day one, with Eidos Montreal collaborating with Playground on its development.
