Exploring the Call of Duty Games in Chronological Order

To say Call of Duty is an important piece of video game history would be an understatement. It’s hard to think of first-person shooters (or action games in general) without mentioning this series, which has become one of the most successful franchises ever after revolutionizing single-player campaigns and online battles.

For over 20 years, Call of Duty has been a dominant force in the gaming industry, with its multiplayer gameplay and iconic characters like Captain Price and Alex Mason. The franchise has also featured unexpected figures such as Spawn, Snoop Dogg, and Lionel Messi. With the upcoming release of Modern Warfare 4, it's a good time to reflect on the extensive history of Call of Duty.

There are a total of 21 main entries in the Call of Duty series, including titles from World War II, the Modern Warfare subseries, and the Black Ops subseries. However, when considering expansions, online experiences, and spin-offs, the number of games increases significantly. Spin-offs like Call of Duty: Siege and Call of Duty: Heroes, as well as mobile versions of the games, have added to the franchise's diversity.

The introduction of unique modes like Zombies and the expansion into battle royale with Warzone have kept the series fresh and engaging for players. The reboot of the Modern Warfare series and the exclusion of Black Ops 4 from the list due to its multiplayer-only nature are notable points to consider when exploring the world of Call of Duty games.
