The University of Silicon Valley is offering a Max Achievement Scholarship program rewarding players who have achieved rare feats in over 50 listed games. Two scholarship tiers, Legendary and Mastery, offer up to $5,000 or $2,500 per term respectively. Achievements range from 100% completion in various games to specific challenges like earning Platinum trophies on PlayStation or 100% achievements in five rare games on Steam.
The scholarship also recognizes accomplishments in specific genres like MMORPGs, strategy games, soulslikes, and roguelikes. It requires candidates to submit a 500-750 word essay reflecting on the skills learned through their digital pursuits. The University plans to award 10-15 scholarships in the first year, with potential expansion based on program success and applicant quality.
If a player's favorite game is not on the list, they can submit an in-game accomplishment for review. The scholarship aims to honor students who exhibit persistence, systems thinking, and problem-solving skills in digital environments, qualities that are transferable to real-world scenarios.
