Developer Techland made the decision to cancel the last-gen versions, citing the game's advanced visuals that require processing power and memory beyond what the older consoles can provide.

Techland stated that the game was built from the ground up to leverage the capabilities of current-generation hardware, with its open world, visuals, combat, and traversal all dependent on the latest technology. Despite progressing in the development of the PS4 and Xbox One versions, the studio concluded that compromising the game's technical aspects would significantly impact the intended player experience.

Players who preordered Dying Light: The Beast for PS4 or Xbox One will be eligible for a refund due to the cancellation. This move follows a trend in the industry where several titles, such as Gotham Knights and Hogwarts Legacy, have focused solely on current-gen platforms and PC, bypassing older consoles to avoid performance issues.
