Dutton Ranch: Yellowstone Spin-off References Kevin Costner’s John

This article contains spoilers for the first episode of Dutton Ranch.

The new Yellowstone spin-off series, Dutton Ranch, premiered its first two episodes on Paramount+. The series starts with Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler moving to Dillon, Montana, only to face a wildfire destroying their ranch. They then relocate to Rio Paloma, Texas, where they purchase a new ranch. The show features references to the original Yellowstone series, including key items like John Dutton's cowboy hat and a photo of Beth with a younger version of John Dutton.

Notably, the show avoids using Kevin Costner's likeness due to his controversial exit from the main series. Instead, the series includes nods to the original show and its characters. Despite creator Taylor Sheridan not directly involved in writing Dutton Ranch, his influence as an executive producer is evident. The spin-off faced some behind-the-scenes challenges, with showrunner Chad Feehan departing shortly before the premiere.

Meanwhile, Taylor Sheridan is currently working on a Call of Duty movie project directed by Peter Berg.
