Doom Receives Prestigious Honor in the US

The US Library of Congress has recently added the original Doom soundtrack to its collection of culturally significant works, recognizing its impact on the gaming industry.

The US Library of Congress has included the original Doom soundtrack in its prestigious collection, highlighting its importance in the world of gaming. The soundtrack, composed by Robert Prince, is now among the esteemed cultural artifacts preserved by the institution. This recognition places Doom's soundtrack alongside other iconic works like Beyonce's 'Single Ladies' and Weezer's debut blue album.

The selection criteria for the National Recording Registry, which led to the inclusion of Doom's soundtrack, require sound recordings to be deemed 'culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.' The program, established in 2002 under the National Recording Preservation Act of 2000, mandates that recordings can only be added ten years after their creation. Doom's soundtrack, known for its adrenaline-fueled compositions, was praised for enhancing the gaming experience and pushing the boundaries of video game music composition during that era.
