Disney Store Closes After Scalpers Cause Chaos Waiting for Lorcana

A Disney store in London has nope’d out of selling the latest Lorcana drop after a massive swarm of fans lined up for blocks outside the building, with some even getting “aggressive” toward other players.

The newest Lorcana drop, The Curator’s Collection: Heroines Edition, features iconic characters like Ariel, Anna, Elsa, Jasmine, and Mulan, making it highly sought after. However, the Disney store on Oxford Street in London was overwhelmed by the unexpected demand.

UK fans shared images on social media of long queues forming hours before the launch on July 17, with reports of aggressive behavior from scalpers and groups trying to control the line. This led to the cancellation of the event and the store remaining closed indefinitely.

In response, the Disney Oxford store assured customers that information on purchasing the collection would be provided soon, expressing gratitude for their patience. Other Disney stores, including Downtown Disneyland in California and Disneyland Paris, have also faced similar issues with collectors and scalpers.

While Disney has not yet commented on the situation, players are expressing disappointment. The scalping problem extends beyond Lorcana, affecting other TCGs like Pokemon and One Piece, with resellers even targeting merchandise like Pokemon-themed Pop Tarts.

However, some companies are combating scalpers, such as Bic Camera in Tokyo, which quizzes buyers before allowing them to purchase Pokemon TCG card packs.
