Damon Lindelof Reveals Details on Canceled Star Wars Movie

Screenwriter Damon Lindelof reveals new details on his canceled Star Wars movie, focusing on the clash between nostalgia and reinvention.

Screenwriter Damon Lindelof shared insights into his scrapped Star Wars project, centered on the battle between nostalgia and innovation. Initially hired by Lucasfilm to pen a New Jedi Order film featuring Daisy Ridley as Rey Skywalker post-The Rise of Skywalker, Lindelof departed the venture in 2023. In an interview with The Ringer-Verse, he delved into the movie's premise, describing it as a clash between the 'Force of nostalgia' and 'Force of revision,' akin to a 'Protestant Reformation inside Star Wars.'

Lindelof explained that the core idea was to explore the conflict between embracing the past and forging new paths within the Star Wars universe. Despite his initial vision, the project faced challenges, leading to his departure from Lucasfilm. The screenwriter acknowledged the complexities of aligning the narrative with existing canon and defining its relationship with Episode 9, ultimately contributing to the project's demise.

While Lindelof's Star Wars endeavor may have been short-lived, the future of the franchise remains uncertain, with various projects in development and shifting leadership within Lucasfilm.
