Criterion Games, known for its racing titles, has been focusing solely on the Battlefield series in recent years. Despite celebrating its history during the 30th-anniversary event, the studio's current emphasis remains on collaborating for Battlefield 6. Originally founded in 1996 in Guildford, England, Criterion's early releases showcased impressive visuals and a touch of British humor.
Criterion's Renderware engine became widely used in the gaming industry, even by titles outside the studio. The acquisition by EA in 2004 marked a shift towards developing the iconic Burnout series, which challenged traditional racing game norms. Burnout's influence can still be felt in modern racing games, solidifying Criterion's position in the genre.
With a legacy spanning from Burnout to Battlefield, Criterion Games continues to leave its mark on the gaming industry, blending innovation with a hint of rebelliousness that defines its unique identity.
