CD Projekt Red to Prioritize Full Games Over Expansions for Witcher 4,

The Witcher 3 may be getting a big new expansion almost 12 years after launch, but you shouldn’t expect that to be the norm for the series going forward.

CD Projekt Red announced that starting from Witcher 4, they will focus on developing full games rather than expansions. Joint CEO Michał Nowakowski revealed in a Q&A session during the company's earnings call that the priority is to release the next trilogy on schedule. The ambitious plan is to launch Witcher 4, 5, and 6 within six years, leaving no room for expansions.

This strategic shift marks a significant change from the past approach of The Witcher series, which saw The Witcher 3 receiving two major expansions and an upcoming one titled Songs of the Past. While the new trilogy may not include expansions, there is still hope for post-launch content. The next expansion, Songs of the Past, is set to release in 2027, pushing the potential release of The Witcher 4 to at least 2028.
