Capcom has discussed the eye-catching inclusion of Tifa from Final Fantasy 7 came to be a guest DLC character in Street Fighter 6, and explained why she’s a perfect fit for the game.
Capcom revealed the process behind adding Tifa from Final Fantasy 7 as a DLC character in Street Fighter 6 during Year 4. The decision to feature Tifa alongside Yasmine, Arjun, and Bosch surprised many fans who were expecting her to appear in a different game. The collaboration stemmed from discussions with a mutual friend at Square Enix, leading to the successful inclusion of Tifa in the game.
Street Fighter director Takayuki Nakayama and producer Shuhei Matsumoto shared insights into the collaboration, highlighting Tifa's martial arts background as a key factor in her selection. The character's unique fighting style and abilities from Final Fantasy 7 were considered ideal for Street Fighter 6, with a special "materia-induced" gameplay mechanic exclusive to Tifa.
Capcom also provided details on the design process for Tifa, mentioning that Square Enix, particularly lead character designer Tetsuya Nomura, had final approval. The Street Fighter 6 Year 4 Character and Ultimate pass includes release dates for Yasmine, Arjun, Tifa, and Bosch, extending into 2027.
