Bungie Surprises Destiny 2 Players with Limited Support Plans

Bungie has given Destiny 2 one last surprise as a farewell gift and revealed its limited support plans for the game.

Bungie surprised Destiny 2 players with a farewell gift in the form of a new emblem of the Destiny logo that can be redeemed on the Bungie website and equipped in-game. The team announced that they will continue periodic server maintenance and address urgent issues like game crashes, but no significant updates are expected. This move follows the recent release of the final Destiny 2 update and the decision to shift focus to supporting Marathon, leading to layoffs within the Destiny team.

Despite hopes from fans, reports suggest that Destiny 3 is not in development due to the high costs involved. Bungie's financial struggles, which led to Sony's acquisition in 2022, have been further highlighted by a recent $765 million loss reported by Sony. The decision to end Destiny 2 was influenced by underperformance starting from the Edge of Fate expansion and discussions about a potential relaunch as Destiny Infinity were ultimately abandoned due to financial risks.

Destiny 2 initially launched in 2017, but tensions with Activision led to their separation in 2019. Bungie took over self-publishing but faced challenges with expansions and player engagement. The focus has now shifted to Marathon, which also faces sales difficulties despite a significant budget. Analysts suggest that Destiny's future is uncertain as Bungie navigates financial pressures and shifting priorities.
