Buffy the Vampire Slayer actor James Marsters acknowledged that his character Spike's longevity on the show was thanks to Anthony Head's help with his British accent. Marsters, who portrayed the British vampire Spike from the second season onwards, admitted that without Head's intervention, his time on the show might have been cut short due to his struggling accent.
Head, who passed away last month at 72, not only played Rupert Giles on Buffy but also appeared in other popular series like Little Britain and Merlin. Marsters shared how Head would unceremoniously help him perfect his lines during lunch breaks, ensuring that his accent wouldn't embarrass the British actor.
The passing of Head, known for his acting prowess and mentorship on set, was met with sorrow from fans and colleagues. His death adds to the losses of other Buffy regulars, including Nicholas Brendon and Michelle Trachtenberg in the past year. Despite fan anticipation, Hulu recently decided not to move forward with a Buffy continuation series after shooting a pilot last summer.
