Brad Bird Talks About His Long-Awaited Movie Ray Gunn

Brad Bird is one of the most celebrated modern animators. From The Iron Giant to The Incredibles and even through his work on The Simpsons, Bird has left an indelible mark on the medium.

Brad Bird has been working on his passion project, a sci-fi noir film called Ray Gunn, for years. The movie, set to premiere on Netflix on December 18, is a blend of The Maltese Falcon and Buck Rogers, set in an alternate future city called Metropia. The story follows the last human private eye investigating a series of murders linked to a pop superstar.

Despite facing challenges, including doubts about the movie ever getting made, Bird remained committed to his vision for Ray Gunn. The film, showcased at the Annecy Animation Film Festival, combines elements of art deco, film noir, and sci-fi, promising a visually stunning and intriguing experience for viewers.

In an interview with IGN, Brad Bird discussed the evolution of Ray Gunn over the years, his preference for animation as a storytelling medium, and the challenges he faced in securing financing for the project. Despite setbacks, the movie is set to finally premiere on Netflix this December.
