Fans got a special preview of what's to come in Season 2 of Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender at IGN Live today.
In its second season, the show welcomes a very beloved character from the original animated series, Toph, to this live-action incarnation of the story. Gordon Cormier (Aang), Christine Boylan (executive producer), and Jabbar Raisani (executive producer and director) were present at IGN Live, along with Toph herself, Miyako. A special Toph-centric behind-the-scenes video was shown, highlighting what viewers can expect from Toph and the efforts Miyako put into portraying the powerful earthbender.
Miyako, a fan of the animated series before her role, aimed to stay true to the original character. She praised the stunt team for fight training and emphasized her collaboration with a blindness consultant to ensure an accurate portrayal of Toph's blindness and earthbending abilities. Season 2 of Avatar: The Last Airbender sees Aang growing taller, with a deeper voice and enhanced waterbending skills, facing increasing responsibilities.
Boylan mentioned that Seasons 2 and 3 were shot consecutively, with the team finding opportunities to connect the two seasons more closely than planned. The adaptation process involved identifying elements loved by fans and deciding what aspects were best suited for animation or live-action. Season 2 premieres on June 25 on Netflix.
