Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced Boasts Strong Launch Numbers

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced isn't just the best-reviewed game in the series in 13 years; it's also off to a flying start with more than 100,000 players on Steam alone.

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced has had a successful launch, attracting over 100,000 players on Steam in its opening week. This marks one of the highest opening weeks for an Assassin's Creed game in recent years, with additional player numbers from other PC storefronts, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. While not all Assassin's Creed titles have debuted on Steam, the game's performance can still be compared to recent releases.

During its launch week, Assassin's Creed Odyssey saw a peak of 62,049 players, while Assassin's Creed Shadows reached 64,825 players in its first year. Notably, Assassin's Creed Valhalla was not initially available on Steam at launch. Ubisoft's return to Steam after a hiatus saw 15,679 players on launch day, increasing to 19,181 players in January 2026. Despite these impressive numbers for Black Flag Resynced, they fall short of Windrose, a pirate game that reached over 220,000 peak concurrent users on Steam during its launch week in April.

However, amidst the success, Ubisoft Barcelona, the developers of Black Flag Resynced, are experiencing layoffs post-launch. As part of Ubisoft's cost-cutting measures affecting 51 developers, the game is anticipated to perform well in a year with limited releases from the company.
