Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced Sales Soar Despite

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced launched on July 9, and the swashbuckling pirate adventure game got off to a great start.

Vantage Studios, the new company overseeing the Assassin's Creed brand, revealed that Resynced sold over 2 million copies within its first 24 hours. Despite the positive reception, the game faced criticism due to its microtransactions. Resynced has garnered praise from critics, achieving an impressive 84 on Metacritic, making it the most acclaimed Assassin's Creed title since 2013. Additionally, the game set a record for the franchise on Steam with 99,451 concurrent players on its launch day.

However, the game received backlash for offering $85 worth of microtransactions in a $60 game. Ubisoft responded to the feedback, emphasizing that the additional content is optional and not necessary to enjoy the game. Most of the microtransaction items are $10 cosmetic packs, with one standout being a $10 pack featuring a bright blue monkey with glowing eyes. Another controversial item is the $5 'Map Pack,' which provides a special spyglass to help players locate collectibles more easily.

Ubisoft's extensive use of microtransactions is not new, with other publishers like CFB 27 also facing criticism for their monetization strategies. GameSpot's review of Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced gave the game a 7/10, praising its enhancements over the original Black Flag but noting new issues introduced by the remake. The development of Resynced was affected by Ubisoft's recent cost-cutting measures, impacting numerous developers involved in the project.
