Assassin's Creed Black Flag Remake Unveils Exclusive Cutscenes

To the casual observer, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag might seem like yet another pretty looking upgrade to a popular game quickly put together for the sole purpose of cashing in on hits of yesteryear, but that’s not how the team at Ubisoft approached this rather ambitious remake to one of the most beloved Assassin’s Creed games.

Ubisoft has completely overhauled the seafaring adventure in the same Anvil engine used for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, with significant changes to combat and game mechanics. Lead writer Darby McDevitt returned as a consultant, adding depth to the story by refining existing characters, introducing new story chapters, and expanding Kenway’s crew. The remake includes three new cutscenes focusing on Edward Kenway, with the first one revealed exclusively.

The new scenes aim to showcase a different side of Edward Kenway, emphasizing his relationship with his wife Caroline and the struggles he faced in trying to provide for her. The cutscenes provide a deeper insight into Edward’s character and motivations, offering players a fresh perspective on the iconic protagonist.

McDevitt explained that the scenes highlight Edward’s desire to prove himself and provide for his wife, shedding light on the challenges he faced and the sacrifices he made. The addition of these cutscenes enriches the narrative of Black Flag, offering players a more nuanced understanding of Edward Kenway’s journey.
