Amazon to Publish Future James Bond Games; IO Interactive Steps Back

Future sequels to 007 First Light will be published by Amazon and MGM, not IO Interactive.

In an interview with Polygon, Jeff Gattis, GM of gaming at Amazon, confirmed that Amazon Game Studios will handle publishing on future James Bond games. Amazon acquired MGM in 2021 and eventually took full creative control of Bond in 2025. Amazon and MGM collaborated on 007 First Light, but Amazon may have more control going forward, with sequels likely done by MGM and Amazon Game Studios.

Amazon Game Studios, as a publishing arm of Amazon, will financially back future Bond titles, potentially influencing game development. Amazon aims to create synergy between games, films, and TV shows, with plans to expand Prime Video IP through game adaptations.

With the success of 007 First Light and IO Interactive's trilogy ambitions, a sequel is highly anticipated. IGN's Luke Reilly praised the game, calling it the best Bond experience yet. IO Interactive's decision to step back from self-publishing Bond games indicates a shift in the franchise's development and publishing structure.
