Aaron Pierre revealed the challenges he faced in securing his role as John Stewart in HBO’s Lanterns series at San Diego Comic Con. Despite a severe bicep injury that required surgery and left his arm in a brace, Pierre persisted and attended his final callback, showcasing his dedication to the part. His commitment to the character was evident as he shared his journey of overcoming the injury to land the role he desired.
During the panel, Pierre expressed his deep affection for the Lanterns series by donning a custom jacket and Green Lantern-themed shoes. His passion for portraying John Stewart was unwavering, leading him to push through physical discomfort to prove his commitment. Pierre's determination paid off as he successfully secured the role and underwent intensive rehabilitation in preparation for filming.
Notably, Pierre's experience mirrors that of Ryan Hurst, who had to exit Prime Video's God of War series due to a similar bicep injury. The role of Kratos will be recast, with filming set to recommence in 2027. HBO’s Lanterns is scheduled to premiere on August 16, 2026.
