A Minecraft Movie's sequel, which was revealed in 2025 under the working title A Minecraft Movie 2, now has an official name. Unveiled during Minecraft Live, the sequel is titled A Minecraft Movie Squared. Actor Matt Berry made an appearance in a promotional video teasing his role in Squared, although the specifics of his character remain unknown.

Originally set to play Steve in the first movie, Berry ended up portraying a villager due to scheduling conflicts. Jack Black assumed the role of Steve in the original film and will reprise it in Squared. Jason Momoa will return as Garrett, and Danielle Brooks will reprise her role as Dawn. Filming for Squared is currently underway in New Zealand, with promises of an elevated production level from Black and a deeper exploration of the Minecraft universe from Brooks.

Kirsten Dunst is the latest addition to the cast, playing the character Alex. Dunst expressed her interest in joining the sequel, citing her children's love for Minecraft and the opportunity to earn substantial profits. A Minecraft Movie Squared is scheduled to premiere on July 23, 2027, a few months after the live-action The Legend of Zelda movie hits theaters in April 2027. The original A Minecraft Movie grossed $960.4 million, ranking as the second-highest-grossing video game movie until it was surpassed by The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which earned $992 million worldwide.
