Developer IO Interactive considered but ultimately cut back on giving Bond extravagant gadgets like an alligator submarine or flamethrower bagpipes in 007 First Light. Senior combat designer Tom Marcham explained that they aimed to keep Bond's arsenal more realistic to fit the game's world. The focus of Bond's gadgets in the game is on espionage and creating strategic opportunities, aligning with the close-quarters gameplay and Bond's character.
While the current gadgets emphasize close combat, IO Interactive is exploring ways to enhance replayability in 007 First Light by potentially expanding Bond's field kit. The game, which sold 1.5 million units in its first 24 hours, is set to receive post-launch content similar to Hitman, including new challenges, upgrades, photo mode, new game plus mode, and a story expansion featuring a character named Lenny Kravitz's pirate king Bawma.
